The incumbent is responsible for the quality of care and the utilization of health care resources. The incumbent is responsible for oversight of Allergy and Immunology, Cardiology, Critical Care, Dermatology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Emergency Medicine, Gastroenterology, Genomics, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine/Hospital Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Nutrition, Oncology and Hematology, Pain Management, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, and Sleep Medicine services. The incumbent functions in a clinical and administrative role and accordingly, must have strong managerial and organizational skills as well as extensive clinical knowledge. The Specialty Care Service Line Lead is responsible for the management of VISN-Wide Specialty Care operations in close collaboration with the Medical Centers Associate Chief of Staff (ACoS), Associate Chief Nurses (ACNs), Clinic Managers and CBOC Managers for Specialty Care Services. He or she reviews/assists and consults with development of VISN service line clinical protocols, policies, guidelines and directives. Provides expertise in provider practice management, population-based health care management and use of data to assist providers in maximizing efficiency and achieve patient and provider satisfaction. Incumbent is responsible for improving and continuously monitoring access to care across VISN 22 facilities while predicting and absorbing demand will be one of the pivotal responsibilities for this position. He/She also provides standing reports/updates to VISN and Facility Leadership on service line activities, concerns and initiatives especially focusing on Quality, Access, Patient Experience measures as well as cost improvement and relevant chronic disease management and care coordination outcome measures. Provides clinical insight and consultation, as appropriate, for non-clinical policies and procedures developed by service lines. Works collaboratively with other Service Line leadership to accomplish network strategic and tactical plans. In addition to making clinical decisions, the Specialty Care Clinical Service Line Lead is actively involved in the management of resources for the Service Line and VISN. Incumbent in collaboration with service line leaders and nurse executives, and medical center facility leadership work ensure service line programs, initiatives and policies are implemented.
