The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for a faculty position in the Pediatric Cancer Survivor Program.

The Cancer Survivor Program is one of the largest in the country. Additionally, the Center provides a rich and collaborative environment for clinical research, with a well-funded Clinical Research Office directed by a senior faculty epidemiologist focused in clinical outcomes research. This new position is an important component of the Center's strategic plan for a strong clinical research program, and represents the next major step in the expansion of a world-class Cancer Survivor Program.

The successful candidate will join one of the strongest pediatric cancer outcomes programs in the country. Established cancer survivor research areas include: endocrine, cardiovascular, psychology, transition of care, communication/perceptions, health system technologies, sexual health, and healthcare utilization.

About the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center* Established in 2001, our cancer survivor program follows over 1700 pediatric and adolescent cancer survivors and is composed of a multi-disciplinary team including an oncologist, endocrinologist, psychologist, advance practice providers, nursing and social work.* Our cancer survivor research team consists of nationally prominent members from a variety of disciplines including: pediatric cancer epidemiology, oncology, psychology, endocrinology, nursing, and health services research as well as a committed team of epidemiologists and research assistants.* Our oncology program cared for more than 500 new cancer cases last year. The Leukemia/Lymphoma program represents one of the largest in the country, with over 130 newly diagnosed cases treated here each year. We represent pediatrics within Emory's NCI-designated Winship Cancer Center.* Children's Healthcare of Atlanta--the only tertiary pediatric center in the dynamic metropolitan Atlanta area--serves a population of nearly 6 million people, providing a strong basis for clinical programs in rare disorders.

Pediatric cancer outcomes is a growing field, with potential research focusing on cost effectiveness, value based care, and innovative models of care that incorporate technologies.

This candidate will have the opportunity to work with our multi-disciplinary team clinically in the survivor clinic and on projects designed to improve patient care and outcomes through patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research, as well as with national survivor cooperative groups (Childhood Cancer Survivor Study and Children's Oncology Group).

This position will allow collaborations with the Department of Epidemiology, Rollins School of Public Health, and affiliations with the neighboring American Cancer Society and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, offering a wealth of opportunities for research collaborations.

This position will also be in conjunction with Emory's NCI-designated cancer center, the Winship Cancer Institute. Candidates will be expected to qualify for membership in the Cancer Prevention and Control Program within the Winship Cancer Institute.

The Winship Cancer Institute is a NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center with 150 core members from across Emory's schools of public health, medicine, and nursing conducting research in the population, clinical, and basic sciences. The Cancer Prevention and Control research program, one of four research programs in the cancer center (www.winshipcancer.emory.edu), with members conducting research in cancer epidemiology, biomarkers, and chemoprevention; health behavior research; symptom management and control; and health outcomes and quality of care.

Candidates should be board-certified/eligible in pediatric hematology/oncology and would require a strong record of scholarship. Candidates will be expected to work in a collaborative fashion conducting nationally recognized pediatric cancer outcomes research. We invite inquiries and applications from early- to mid-career candidates with expertise in communication and healthcare decision-making or patient related outcomes research studies, pediatric oncology, and related disciplines. Candidates with strong methodological backgrounds will be preferred.
